“It’s a good news they have gone back to him. He knows how to revive teams. I recommend him for te Glazers last but he decline the offer. Manchester United is reportedly planning to revisit talks with a previous managerial candidate if Erik ten Hag’s time at Old Trafford ends. Ten Hag has faced mounting pressure due to a series of poor performances, notably a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham, which intensified doubts about his leadership. Compounding this, United squandered a two-goal lead in their Europa League match against Porto, salvaging a draw only with a late goal from Harry Maguire.

The Athletic suggests that the club’s management is considering a “long-term view” on Ten Hag’s future. This implies that even a loss in the upcoming Premier League match against Aston Villa might not immediately jeopardize his position. Over the summer, minority co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS representatives spoke with several managerial candidates as potential replacements for Ten Hag. While his role appeared secure after winning the FA Cup and extending his contract, recent poor results have led to renewed speculation about his future and a potential revival of those earlier discussions.

One significant figure approached during the summer was Thomas Tuchel, the ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager. However, Tuchel reportedly declined due to concerns about Manchester United’s internal structure. With Ten Hag now under pressure, the club may seek to reinitiate discussions with Tuchel, who is currently available. His experience with top clubs and tactical skills make him an appealing option, though it’s uncertain if he would reconsider the role.

Additionally, Ratcliffe reportedly has preferences for other managerial candidates, including Graham Potter and Gareth Southgate. Both are recognized for their player development and tactical adaptability, traits Ratcliffe may favor. However, any decision regarding a managerial change would involve the club’s leadership, indicating that Ratcliffe’s preferences are just one aspect of the process.

Another candidate in the mix is Simone Inzaghi, the current manager of Inter Milan. Reports from Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri state that United approached Inzaghi this week, but he chose to remain with Inter, where he has had significant success, including reaching the Champions League final. His decision underscores the challenges United face in attracting top managers amidst concerns about the club’s internal issues and recent performances.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank is also reportedly in discussions with United. Frank is respected for his tactical abilities and his success with limited resources. He was previously in talks with United ahead of last season’s FA Cup final, which they unexpectedly won against Manchester City. Frank’s name has resurfaced as a potential successor to Ten Hag, though it’s unclear if those discussions will be renewed.

Despite many names being mentioned, current assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy remains the favorite among bookmakers to take over if Ten Hag is dismissed. A former United striker, Van Nistelrooy returned to the club after a successful stint at PSV Eindhoven. His deep understanding of the club’s culture, coupled with his rising reputation as a manager, makes him a strong candidate. However, it’s uncertain whether the club would prefer to promote from within or pursue a more seasoned manager with a proven track record in European football.

As Manchester United approaches a critical juncture in their season, Ten Hag’s future is uncertain. His ability to rectify the situation will be closely monitored, with the match against Aston Villa likely pivotal for his continued tenure. While the club seems to be adopting a long-term perspective on his position, ongoing talks with other candidates indicate they are preparing for potential changes. The timing of such a decision remains unclear, but the uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag’s status is undoubtedly affecting both him and the club.
