Real Madrid Set to Intensify Pursuit of Trent Alexander-Arnold Following Dani Carvajal Injury

Real Madrid is reportedly intensifying its pursuit of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold following a serious injury to Dani Carvajal. The Spanish defender sustained a major knee injury during a 2-0 victory over Villarreal, which forced him to leave the match early.
Medical evaluations have revealed that Carvajal has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, external collateral ligament, and popliteus tendon in his right leg. This injury will sideline him for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, leaving a significant void in the squad for the European champions. With Carvajal out, manager Carlo Ancelotti now relies primarily on Lucas Vazquez for the right-back position. Although there are a few options from the Castilla team, Real Madrid may seek additional defensive reinforcements during the January transfer window.
According to Marca, Real Madrid might expedite their plans to secure Alexander-Arnold, who was initially eyed for a summer transfer when he could be available on a free due to his expiring contract.
However, Carvajal’s injury could prompt the club to make an earlier offer for the skilled full-back in January. Despite being in the final year of his contract, Alexander-Arnold remains crucial for Liverpool, having started nine of the team’s ten competitive matches this season, including all seven in the Premier League. It is unlikely that Liverpool will consent to sell their first-choice right-back in the middle of the season, given his significance to the squad.
The club’s decision regarding a potential January offer will likely hinge on the outcome of contract discussions with Alexander-Arnold. Recent reports indicate that he is open to extending his contract at Anfield, despite the growing interest from Real Madrid.
