“No coach will do that. It’s not normal. Maybe he is tired of the Job. How can you make those decisions?”- Man United fans think Erik ten Hag decision proves he is ‘waiting to be sacked

Manchester United fans are interpreting a decision by Erik ten Hag during the 3-3 draw against Porto as an indication that he is “waiting to be sacked.”

After a disheartening 3-0 loss to Spurs at Old Trafford, United began strongly at the Estadio do Dragao. Marcus Rashford scored with an impressive solo effort just seven minutes in, followed by Rasmus Hojlund doubling the lead in the 20th minute during his first start of the season. Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa was at fault for both goals, and United seemed to have the match under control.

However, the situation quickly deteriorated. Pepe scored to bring Porto back, and Samu Omorodion equalized with a header from a cross that United failed to defend. Early in the second half, Omorodion struck again, putting Porto ahead 3-2. The 20-year-old, formerly with Atletico Madrid, dominated Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt throughout the match, leading to heavy criticism of United’s new center-back pairing.

In response to the unfolding crisis, Ten Hag made a contentious decision in the 77th minute, substituting both Martinez and De Ligt for Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans, which left fans in disbelief.

One supporter remarked, “Maguire and Evans… same midfield. Clearly, Erik wants the 17 million.”

Another expressed outrage, “Maguire and Evans coming on while we’re losing????”

A third fan sarcastically noted, “78 minutes in. Down 3-2. Who do you bring on? Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans, obviously.”

A fourth added, “Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire entering the game while Manchester United is trailing 3-2. Love it, makes total sense. Come on, lads.”

Despite the backlash, Maguire managed to score a stoppage-time equalizer, potentially buying Ten Hag some time in his role. United, now down to 10 men after Bruno Fernandes received a red card for the second straight game, face a tough away match against Aston Villa on Sunday.
