Marco Van Basten, criticizes Eric Ten Hag’s transfer decisions

Former striker Marco van Basten has criticized Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag for signing midfielder Manuel Ugarte from PSG. Van Basten believes Ten Hag has made poor decisions by bringing in players who don’t meet the club’s standards. His comments came after United’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, which left the team with only two league wins this season, placing them 13th after six matches. Despite receiving significant support in the transfer market with new additions like Leny Yoro, Matthijs De Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Ugarte, Ten Hag is under considerable pressure as the team’s performance remains subpar.
On Ziggo Sport, Van Basten specifically targeted Ugarte’s €50 million transfer, questioning, “How is this guy walking around there? It’s ridiculous how much Ten Hag has spent on players who aren’t even good.”
Reports suggest that United paid £50.8 million for Ugarte, who was brought in as a backup for Casemiro. However, the 23-year-old has failed to make an impact in his two appearances, which included a shaky debut in a 1-1 draw against Twente and an unremarkable performance against Tottenham, where he was replaced by Christian Eriksen.
