Manchester United is reportedly seeking to acquire a player from La Liga as manager Erik ten Hag looks to reshape the squad this summer. As per Spanish reports highlighted by the Daily Express, the club has agreed to meet Real Madrid’s asking price for left-back Miguel Gutiérrez during the current transfer window.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe taking charge at Manchester United, major changes are expected at Old Trafford. The team has struggled with left-back depth due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, forcing them to go much of last season without a natural left-back. The management, in partnership with INEOS, is focused on addressing this gap during the summer transfer window.

Gutiérrez left Real Madrid for Girona two years ago, but the club has retained a buy-back option they intend to activate this summer. After doing so, they plan to sell him to Manchester United for approximately £34 million. The 22-year-old left-back was part of the Real Madrid squad that won the Champions League in 2022, highlighting his potential.

Shaw and Malacia both faced injury challenges, limiting Manchester United’s options at left-back last season. Shaw, in particular, has a history of fitness problems during his time at the club. His ongoing injury has also prevented him from being selected for Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros this summer, raising concerns about his reliability.

The left-back situation became so dire that players from other positions were required to step in. Defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and center-back Victor Lindelöf had to fill left-back roles due to the injury crisis, although neither was particularly effective. Given these challenges, it’s evident why ten Hag is eager to secure reinforcements.

Several top clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal, are also interested in the Spanish international. However, Manchester United seems to be in the forefront to sign him. Ten Hag’s dissatisfaction with his current left-back options has made this transfer a top priority for the club.
