Mason Greenwood played a key role in a jubilant Marseille celebration following a last-minute win over Lyon that propelled Roberto De Zerbi’s team to the top of Ligue 1. The thrilling 3-2 victory kept Marseille unbeaten in the league, now tied on points with Monaco and reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Although Marseille was down to 10 men just five minutes into the game, they managed to come back and seemed to have settled for a draw when Rayan Cherki equalized for Lyon in the 93rd minute. However, Jonathan Rowe clinched the victory with a stoppage-time goal two minutes later, igniting exuberant celebrations in the dressing room. Greenwood, who has excelled since his £27 million transfer from Manchester United, was seen excitedly banging his fist on a table.

Although Greenwood didn’t score in this match, his five goals and playmaking have been vital for Marseille’s strong start to the season. Nonetheless, the team needs to improve its discipline, having received red cards in consecutive games. Their next test is against Strasbourg as they aim to hold onto their lead in Ligue 1.
