Liverpool fans were quick to criticize Andrew Robertson following the team’s 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on September 14 at Anfield. This defeat was significant as it was Liverpool’s first Premier League loss under new coach Arne Slot.

Nottingham Forest clinched the win in the 72nd minute with a remarkable right-footed goal from substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi. After receiving a well-timed pass from Anthony Elanga, Hudson-Odoi unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty area. The ball hit the crossbar and went in, giving Nottingham Forest an unexpected advantage.

Liverpool struggled to respond, with Robertson having a particularly poor performance. The Scottish left-back made no notable impact during the game, failing to complete any tackles, interceptions, or successful long passes, and losing possession six times before being substituted by Konstantinos Tsimikas in the 75th minute.

Fans expressed their frustration with Robertson’s performance on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). One supporter commented, “What is Robertson still doing playing? Should’ve retired last year.” Another wrote, “Robertson has no technical ability to be covering half spaces, man.” Many criticized his unwillingness to cover the entire pitch and his limited passing ability, with one user noting, “Robertson is so obviously our weakest link in possession. He’s so ridiculously stiff.”

Although Liverpool had 70% possession, they were ineffective in front of goal. Out of their 14 shots, only five were on target. In contrast, Nottingham Forest took only five shots but were more precise, with three on target. Liverpool also committed more fouls, 15 compared to Nottingham Forest’s six, highlighting their frustration on the day.

Despite the disappointing loss to Nottingham Forest, Liverpool has had a strong start to the 2024-25 Premier League season under Arne Slot. The team has won three of their first four matches and is currently second in the standings with nine points, trailing only Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who have a perfect 12 points.

One of Liverpool’s most impressive performances this season was their 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 1. Luis Diaz scored twice (in the 35th and 42nd minutes), and Mohamed Salah added a third in the 56th minute, securing a dominant win over Erik ten Hag’s side.

Liverpool’s next challenge will be their UEFA Champions League opener against AC Milan at the San Siro on September 17. This match will mark the beginning of Liverpool’s European campaign, and the team will be eager to recover from their domestic loss and make a strong start in Europe.

Andrew Robertson is likely to remain under scrutiny following his poor performance against Nottingham Forest. His future performances, especially in important competitions like the Champions League, will be closely watched by fans and analysts. Slot will need Robertson and other key players to perform well if Liverpool is to succeed in both domestic and European tournaments this season.

Despite the setback, Liverpool’s overall form under Slot has been promising. With three wins from four Premier League games and a significant victory over Manchester United, there remains considerable optimism about the team. However, maintaining consistency and improving individual performances like Robertson’s will be crucial as they aim for trophies on multiple fronts this season.
