After England defeated Finland on Tuesday, Declan Rice revealed Harry Maguire’s new nickname. During the international break, Rice and Maguire participated in both of England’s matches, helping the team start their Nations League campaign with two consecutive victories.

Rice, who plays for Arsenal, and Maguire, a Manchester United defender, have been crucial to Lee Carsley’s strong beginning as England’s interim manager, a position he took on last month following Gareth Southgate’s resignation after England’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

The day after England’s 2-0 victory over Finland at Wembley, Maguire posted a review of the two games on Instagram. Along with four photos and the caption “Enjoyable camp with the lads, perfect start to the Nations League,” he included: “Love heart and England flag emojis.” Rice commented on the post, revealing Maguire’s new nickname by saying, “Love it, Tony.” In response, Jack Grealish added three smiling face emojis. James Maddison and Youri Tielemans, who previously played with Maddison at Leicester, also liked the post.

Maguire participated in Manchester United’s first two Premier League matches after being left out during the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool before the international break. New signing Matthijs de Ligt replaced him, partnering with Lisandro Martinez in central defense. Erik ten Hag might consider this duo as his preferred defensive pairing.

United will play again on Saturday at Southampton. After losing two consecutive matches, they will be keen to return to winning form. Before the game, Ten Hag stated, “We’re in a transitional phase, and we need to incorporate many young players.”

“We need to get the injured players back into the squad. I am aware, and the team is aware, that we need to win every game. We will focus on each game and be prepare‎d to win.”
