Why Adrien Rabiot Desperately Needs a Move to Manchester United

Manchester United have been linked with a potential move for Adrien Rabiot, and it appears the French midfielder may need this transfer more than most. After a challenging summer and currently without a club, Rabiot’s career is at a critical point.

United’s lack of midfield depth was painfully evident in their recent 3-0 loss to Liverpool, where youngster Toby Collyer had to replace an underperforming Casemiro. This highlighted their need for reinforcements, and Rabiot, a free agent, could be the answer.

Despite interest from several clubs, the 29-year-old remains unattached as the 2024-25 season begins. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United have been offered the chance to sign Rabiot, whose situation is becoming more precarious by the day.

Rabiot’s Need for a Transfer

For Rabiot, joining Manchester United could be crucial. Left out of the French national team for the recent international break, France coach Didier Deschamps has publicly urged him to find a new club to revive his international prospects. Deschamps called his current situation “embarrassing,” emphasizing that Rabiot needs to resume training with a team if he wants to return to the national squad.

The Risks of a Short-Term Solution

United, however, need to be cautious. The club has previously struggled with short-term signings—Wout Weghorst’s brief spell being a recent example—that can disrupt team dynamics and the wage structure. Rabiot’s high wage demands may be why no top European clubs have signed him yet. If United pursue the deal, they must ensure it’s not simply a financial move for the player.

Should Rabiot lower his salary expectations, the transfer could benefit both parties. United need midfield depth, especially with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen possibly departing next summer. Securing Rabiot now could ease the transition and bring valuable experience to the squad.

With time running out, Rabiot’s next move could be decisive for both his club and international future.
