Despite the recent closure of the transfer window, Manchester United are already planning for the January window in an effort to strengthen their squad. After a shaky start to the Premier League season, it’s evident that reinforcements are needed—particularly at left-back, where Luke Shaw’s ongoing injury issues remain a concern.

United’s revamped leadership brought in five new signings over the summer while allowing 13 players to depart. The upcoming January transfer window presents another chance to further enhance the squad. According to reports, the Red Devils have identified Brest defender Bradley Locko as a potential option to cover for Shaw.

Shaw’s Injury Troubles Push United to Seek Backup

Luke Shaw’s repeated injury problems have left Manchester United searching for reliable backup options. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and other board members have voiced frustration with Shaw’s lack of availability, making the signing of a new left-back a top priority for January.

One of the players United are targeting is 21-year-old Locko, who has impressed at Brest since making his first-team debut in the 2021/22 season. The French full-back, who earns approximately £8,000 a week, made 33 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, providing three assists.

Additional Left-Back Options

Locko is not the only left-back United are monitoring. Fulham’s Antonee Robinson and AFC Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez are also on the club’s shortlist. Both players are seen as strong candidates to provide competition and depth at left-back. Despite Shaw having three years left on his contract, United’s pursuit of a new left-back underscores their concerns about his availability. With January approaching, the club’s recruitment team will be working hard to secure the right defensive addition.
