Liverpool player set to leave before deadline day as ‘agreement’ reached for surprise transfer

Liverpool are poised to lose another player this transfer window after finalizing a deal ahead of the deadline.

The Reds are wrapping up an exciting summer transfer window, with Giorgi Mamardashvili joining the team on Tuesday and Federico Chiesa reportedly completing his medical on Thursday.

The window has also seen several key players leave, including Fabio Carvalho, Thiago Alcantara, and Joel Matip.

Now, another departure is imminent before the deadline on Friday, as Liverpool has agreed to allow a player to move this summer.

According to David Ornstein, Red Bull Salzburg has struck a deal with Liverpool to take midfielder Stefan Bajcetic on loan for the season.

Earlier reports indicated that the deal was nearing completion, but late interest from Barcelona nearly disrupted the agreement.

However, after the La Liga giants failed to finalize the deal, Salzburg secured the transfer, and Bajcetic will soon travel to Austria for his medical.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano later explained that Barcelona’s potential deal fell through due to Financial Fair Play regulations in La Liga.

The 19-year-old will reunite with former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders, who took over as Salzburg’s manager this summer after departing Merseyside alongside Jurgen Klopp.

Bajcetic has made 22 senior appearances for Liverpool, having had a breakout season with the club in 2022/23.

However, since March 2023, a series of injuries have limited the Spanish youngster’s opportunities to get regular playing time for the Reds over the past 18 months.

Bajcetic will join former teammate Bobby Clark, who made a permanent move from Liverpool to Salzburg earlier this summer.

Clark transferred to the Austrian club for a fee potentially reaching £10 million, with a 17.5% sell-on clause and a match rights agreement also included in the deal.

Posting on X after the announcement, Clark wrote: “After an incredible 3 years at @liverpoolfc, I’ve decided it’s time for a new challenge. I’ve learned so much during my time at the club and am very thankful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had. Thank you to all the fans who supported me on this journey #ynwa ❤️”
