Thiago Alcantara has reportedly made a surprise return to Liverpool after leaving his position at Barcelona.

At the end of the 23/24 season, the Spanish midfielder left the club as his contract expired.

Though his time at Anfield started with high hopes, Thiago’s Liverpool tenure was marred by recurring injuries.

Shortly after his departure from Merseyside, it was revealed that Thiago had retired from professional football.

On Instagram, Thiago Alcantara shared his thoughts: “I will always be ready to give back what I have received, and I am grateful for the time I’ve had.

“Thank you, football, and to everyone who supported me and helped me grow both as a player and as a person. See you soon.”

Thiago briefly joined Hansi Flick’s team at Barcelona but departed after just a month.

According to Spanish news source Marca, Thiago has returned to Liverpool because he needs to remain in the UK for the rest of the year due to tax issues related to the termination of his contract with the Reds.

After leaving Liverpool, Thiago Alcantara penned a heartfelt letter to the fans:

“Appreciation and gratitude are the first words that come to mind as I bid farewell to all of you, Reds. My thankfulness runs deep.”

“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this city, this club, and this community. The unwavering support I’ve received from day one has been remarkable: the cheers from Anfield, the chants from the Kop… it has been both incredible and overwhelming.”

“The fan base here is genuinely unique for a one-of-a-kind club. These past four years have been a period of growth for me and my family—marked by both triumphs and challenges, but unquestionably a transformative journey.”

The letter continued: “To my teammates, coaches, staff, and everyone at the club: you’ve all played a crucial role in this journey. And to the fans, I’m at a loss for words. Please know that you have my deepest gratitude always. Thank you; it has been a true honor.

Wishing Liverpool FC all the best in the future.”
