Liverpool wants to sell their top player for only £34M

Liverpool are reportedly open to the possibility of selling Joe Gomez in the final days of the summer transfer window, having set a price tag that could attract interest from several clubs. The 27-year-old defender, who was notably absent from Arne Slot’s squad for the 2-0 win against Ipswich, faces an uncertain future at Anfield.

According to reports from CaughtOffside, Liverpool may entertain offers ranging from €35m to €40m (£30m-£35m) for the England international. Premier League clubs like Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Fulham are said to be among the interested parties, with potential interest also coming from teams in Saudi Arabia.

Despite these reports, no official bids have been made for Gomez yet. It remains unclear whether he prefers to continue in the Premier League or explore opportunities abroad. The situation is particularly surprising considering earlier reports that Liverpool had agreed to a £45m deal with Newcastle earlier in the summer, which ultimately did not materialize.

Selling Gomez, especially to a direct Premier League rival, could be viewed as a risky decision by Liverpool. His versatility in covering multiple defensive positions makes him a valuable player for the team. Given the current depth of the club’s defense, parting with a player of Gomez’s experience without a suitable replacement could leave the squad exposed, adding to the complexity of this potential transfer decision.
