Liverpool FC has been monitoring Goncalo Inacio for several years as discussions about a transfer resurface.

Liverpool may be reigniting their interest in Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio after years of scouting him, as recent reports suggest. Although Liverpool has previously been linked with the Portuguese international, these rumors have resurfaced.
Arne Slot, having missed out on signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad this summer, is now eager to secure a new center-back and is determined not to let another opportunity slip away. While there has been no official confirmation of Liverpool’s pursuit of Inacio, speculation around his potential move continues to grow.
The 22-year-old defender fits Liverpool’s need for a young center-back and offers substantial experience, having become a key player for Sporting and regularly representing Portugal on the international stage. With 11 caps and two goals for Portugal, Inacio has made over 170 appearances for Sporting Lisbon since his debut in 2020, following his progression through their academy. He recently played a vital role in helping Sporting win the domestic title, adding to his collection of four trophies in Portugal.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool is reportedly interested in acquiring Inacio, having monitored him for several years. Last season, Inacio featured in 32 league matches as Sporting clinched the Primeira Liga title, finishing 10 points ahead of Benfica. He also contributed three goals in nine Europa League matches and appeared twice for Portugal at Euro 2024.
Though primarily a center-back, Inacio is versatile and can also operate as a right-back or in midfield, thanks to his strong long-range passing and ability to initiate attacks. Standing at 6ft 1in, with acceleration, agility, and pace, he is well-suited for Liverpool’s defense. His versatility would provide manager Arne Slot with various tactical options in case of injuries or suspensions.
Should Liverpool decide to pursue Inacio, they will need to meet his release clause, which is reportedly valued at around $65 million (£51 million/€60 million). Manchester United has also shown interest, although their recent acquisition of Yoro may impact their pursuit of Inacio.
