**Manchester United Contacts Free Agent Mario Hermoso Amid Defensive Injury Crisis**

Manchester United has reportedly taken steps to address their defensive woes by entering talks with free agent Mario Hermoso, following injuries to key players Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro. The club confirmed that Yoro, a recent summer signing from Lille, underwent surgery for a fractured metatarsal in his left foot, which he sustained in a pre-season match against Arsenal. The 18-year-old center-back is expected to be sidelined for around three months.

Manager Erik ten Hag is currently grappling with multiple injuries within his squad. Striker Rasmus Hojlund is also out with a pre-season injury, expected to keep him off the pitch for several weeks. As United prepares for their Community Shield clash against Manchester City, ten Hag hinted at further potential absences.

“Harry Maguire missed the game against Liverpool as a precaution, but he’s still uncertain for Saturday’s match,” ten Hag stated. “We need to assess his fitness to see if he’ll be available.”

Ten Hag also mentioned that Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Luke Shaw are doubtful for the upcoming fixture. “We’ll evaluate their conditions tomorrow,” he added.

Amid these challenges, reports suggest United is eyeing Mario Hermoso as a possible reinforcement. Hermoso, a 29-year-old Spanish defender who previously played for Atlético Madrid, is currently without a club after his contract expired in June. Known for his versatility as both a center-back and left-back, Hermoso could provide much-needed depth to United’s injury-hit defense.

Hermoso is reportedly seeking a three-year contract with a gross annual salary of €6 million (£5.1 million). Talks are said to be in the early stages, and it remains uncertain how they will progress. During his five-year stint with Atlético Madrid, Hermoso made 174 appearances and was instrumental in their 2020/21 La Liga title-winning campaign.

With interest from other Premier League clubs like Aston Villa and West Ham, Manchester United may need to act swiftly to secure Hermoso’s services. His experience could be vital as United navigates a difficult start to the season with a depleted squad.
