While Varane managed to walk off the field, he appeared to be in significant pain as Como’s medical team escorted him to the sidelines.

**Concerns About Varane’s Fitness**

Details about the nature of Varane’s injury are still unclear, but this setback highlights a troubling start for the former Manchester United defender.

Varane’s history of fitness issues was a key factor in Manchester United’s decision not to extend his contract. During his three seasons with United, he made 22 Premier League appearances in 2021/22, 24 in 2022/23, and only 16 starts in 2023/24—less than half of the season’s games. Overall, he started just 58 out of a possible 113 Premier League games, a little over 50%.

While Varane’s replacement at United, Leny Yoro, has also faced injury struggles, Varane’s early setback at Como suggests that United’s decision to part ways with him was justified, despite the challenges they face with Yoro.
