Arne Slot has now had four pre-season matches to evaluate most of his Liverpool squad, aside from the last batch of players joining after international commitments. The Reds’ new head coach used these games to give ample playtime to young prospects aiming for long-term senior roles at Anfield. A decision has reportedly been made about one player who has already had a few experiences with the first team.

According to the Daily Express, Liverpool’s management has decided to loan out Ben Doak this month, following his pre-season performances. Leicester, Southampton, and Brentford have all shown interest in the 18-year-old. While a straight loan move seems the most likely, Liverpool may also entertain proposals that include an option to buy.

Doak, whose promising 2023/24 season was cut short by knee surgery and a subsequent injury preventing his participation in Euro 2024 for Scotland, recently expressed his determination to “get as many appearances on the board as possible” this season. This could indicate his willingness to leave Liverpool temporarily to gain regular football, a sentiment the club’s hierarchy appears to share.

With five established senior attackers in Slot’s squad and Fabio Carvalho impressing during the U.S. tour, Doak might find it challenging to secure frequent playtime for Liverpool this term. Loaning him to a fellow Premier League club would allow Liverpool to evaluate his capabilities in the league, provided he receives sufficient game time.

Whoever secures Doak on loan – if a move materializes – will be fortunate to acquire such a promising young talent and must ensure he gets the opportunities to prove his worth at the senior level.
