Journalist Cesar Luis Merlo claims that Atletico Madrid is in “advanced discussions” to sign striker Julian Alvarez from Manchester City. According to the Argentine writer, the Spanish team has already reached a deal for a five-year contract after holding discussions with the player’s entourage.
Atletico is now anticipated to speak with City over the transfer fee, but X followers are doubtful that the deal will truly happen:
The 24-year-old City striker has been linked to other teams; Atletico is not the only team that has contemplated a move for him. According to reports, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain have also expressed interest.
Still, a lot hinges on who is willing to meet Alvarez’s asking price. The reported asking price for City is €90 million (£76.8 million), with a further €20 million (£17.1 million) in add-ons.
After the Olympics, Alvarez said he will decide on his future. The 24-year-old has stated that he would consider his options after returning to Manchester from his present location with Argentina’s Olympic squad in Paris:
“I never made any negative remarks about the club. I just mentioned that I would give it some thought, like I do each season, and analyze what transpired and forecast what could happen. I often repeat that City is a terrific club where I feel pleased and at ease. I said nothing offensive.”
