New report reveals the three positions in Liverpool’s squad Arne Slot wants to strengthen

Liverpool are yet to make a signing this summer under new boss Arne Slot, but a recent report has highlighted the three positions the Dutchman wants to strengthen.
Slot joined Liverpool from Feyenoord on a three-year deal, succeeding Jurgen Klopp, who announced earlier this year he would step down. Slot’s first game in charge ended in defeat in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Preston North End.
However, Liverpool bounced back on their pre-season tour in America, beating Real Betis 1-0 thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s goal, followed by a 2-1 victory against Arsenal with goals from Mo Salah and Fabio Carvalho.
Liverpool will play Manchester United next in their American tour before concluding their pre-season with a friendly at Anfield against Sevilla. They begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to promoted Ipswich Town.
This summer, Liverpool has seen the departures of Adrian and Joel Matip, and Thiago’s retirement following the end of his contract. Despite these exits, Liverpool have yet to make any new signings.
With it being Slot’s first season in charge, he has taken time to assess his squad, including players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Darwin Nunez, who reached the latter stages of Euro 2024 and the Copa America and have yet to report back.
According to the Independent, Liverpool plan to strengthen three specific areas: a central defender, a defensive midfielder, and a wide forward player. Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, potentially costing up to £80 million plus add-ons. Slot is also considering which current players to make available for sale to fund new arrivals.
The next week to 10 days will be crucial for Liverpool to secure reinforcements before the new Premier League season begins.
