Manchester United and Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle to sign their defender. It is understood that Manchester United are now dealing with a large number of injuries as the new season begins in two weeks, and Inoes is attempting to replace some of their injured team members.

Manchester United Eyes Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell Amid Tactical Shift at Stamford Bridge
Manchester United has shown interest in Chelsea’s left-back, Ben Chilwell. Chilwell, who joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2020 for £45 million, has made a significant impact with 106 appearances, 9 goals, and 12 assists. He has also been part of Chelsea’s successes in the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup.
Despite these achievements, Chilwell’s future at Chelsea is uncertain with new manager Enzo Maresca at the helm. Reports indicate that Chilwell might not fit into Maresca’s tactical system, which favors full-backs capable of transitioning into midfield roles, akin to Pep Guardiola’s style. TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook explained, “Chilwell’s playstyle as a conventional left-back doesn’t mesh with Maresca’s system. Maresca wants his full-backs to play more like Guardiola’s, stepping into midfield and contributing in multiple areas. This isn’t Chilwell’s natural style.”
Manchester United’s interest in Chilwell coincides with their own left-back issues. Injuries plagued their defensive line last season, notably with Luke Shaw missing significant time and Tyrell Malacia out due to a knee injury. The club even had to loan Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham to cover for Shaw’s absence.
However, Chilwell also struggled with injuries last season, missing 35 games due to hamstring and knee issues. He managed only 21 appearances, with just 13 starts. Despite this, United sees Chilwell as a potential solution to their defensive challenges. This potential transfer is significant for both clubs. For Chelsea, offloading Chilwell could free up resources and space for other signings. For Manchester United, acquiring Chilwell could provide much-needed depth and reliability in a key defensive position, assuming his injury issues can be managed. The outcome of this deal could have a major impact on both teams’ campaigns.
