However, the deal was abandoned as Newcastle found other ways to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Gomez, currently on holiday after participating in the European Championships with England, is aware of the situation and is expected to return to pre-season training under new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot. While Newcastle has not renewed their interest, Gomez has attracted attention from other clubs, though Liverpool has not received formal offers yet.

Liverpool remains interested in Anthony Gordon, particularly with Mohamed Salah entering the final year of his contract and uncertainties around Luis Diaz’s future. However, Newcastle no longer urgently needs to sell Gordon, which could increase his asking price.

As Liverpool’s longest-serving current player, Gomez was one of the most reliable performers last season but only started four games in his preferred centre-back role.
