Big news. Liverpool wants to swap Joe Gomez with this Premier League superstar + £45M
Joe Gomez’s future at Liverpool is uncertain this summer after a potential move to Newcastle United fell through. Liverpool had agreed on a £45 million deal for Gomez, part of a larger package that included Anthony Gordon moving to Anfield for £75 million. However, the deal was abandoned as Newcastle found other ways to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Gomez, currently on holiday after participating in the European Championships with England, is aware of the situation and is expected to return to pre-season training under new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot. While Newcastle has not renewed their interest, Gomez has attracted attention from other clubs, though Liverpool has not received formal offers yet.
Liverpool remains interested in Anthony Gordon, particularly with Mohamed Salah entering the final year of his contract and uncertainties around Luis Diaz’s future. However, Newcastle no longer urgently needs to sell Gordon, which could increase his asking price.
As Liverpool’s longest-serving current player, Gomez was one of the most reliable performers last season but only started four games in his preferred centre-back role. If Gomez were to leave, Liverpool would need to bolster their central defense, with Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Jarell Quansah being the only other regular options in that position ahead of the August 30 transfer deadline.
