Real Madrid are eyeing Manchester City midfielder Rodri as a potential successor to Toni Kroos, who is set to retire after the European Championship next month. Kroos, widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation and a 2014 FIFA World Cup winner, will end his illustrious career following Euro 2024 in Germany. His final club game will be the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on June 1.

Replacing Kroos will be a daunting task for Real Madrid, but Rodri is viewed as a strong candidate. The 27-year-old Spaniard has been a key player for Manchester City since his arrival four years ago, contributing significantly to their success. According to reports from Tribal Football, Real Madrid are keen on acquiring Rodri, although the transfer could be complicated given his contract with City runs until 2027.

Rodri’s market value is approximately €110 million according to Transfermarkt. During his time at Manchester City, he has scored 26 goals and provided 30 assists in 256 appearances. His trophy haul with the club includes 11 titles, such as the continental treble last season and four consecutive Premier League titles.

Another potential target for Real Madrid is Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich. Like Rodri, Kimmich is a versatile midfielder with significant experience and skill, making him another viable option to fill the void left by Kroos.

Both Real Madrid and Manchester City have enjoyed successful seasons. Real Madrid secured the Supercopa Espana and La Liga titles, while Manchester City won the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and Premier League. Both clubs have the chance to add more silverware before the season ends.

Real Madrid will conclude their La Liga campaign at home against Real Betis and then face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final. Manchester City, on the other hand, will finish their season with the FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley. Fresh off their unprecedented four-peat in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola’s side will aim to defend their FA Cup title, having defeated United 2-1 in the final last year.

As Real Madrid look to the future, securing a replacement for Toni Kroos will be crucial for maintaining their midfield strength. Rodri’s proven track record and skillset make him an attractive target, though the complexities of his contract with Manchester City could pose challenges. Alternatively, Joshua Kimmich offers another high-quality option. The decisions made in the upcoming transfer window will significantly shape Real Madrid’s midfield dynamics for the next season and beyond.
