Manchester United’s new owner has instructed two big-name players to leave and stop training with the club.

Manchester United are gearing up for pre-season training and are looking to offload Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho before the squad reconvenes. Both players spent last season on loan—Greenwood at Getafe and Sancho at Borussia Dortmund—with both clubs expressing interest in retaining them, but not meeting United’s transfer demands.
Under new shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United are keen to avoid involving either player in Erik Ten Hag’s pre-season camp, according to HITC. Greenwood, who faced criminal charges two years ago but was later cleared, has not played for the team since, and his potential return poses a dilemma for the club. Sancho’s strained relationship with the club following a public dispute with Ten Hag complicates his standing within the team.
Valued at a combined £85 million, Greenwood and Sancho represent significant assets for United, who hope their sales could fund summer transfer activities to strengthen the squad. However, finding buyers willing to meet the asking prices has been challenging, with Getafe and Dortmund preferring loan agreements over permanent transfers.
Greenwood’s situation is delicate, balancing potential media scrutiny and fan reactions against financial and sporting benefits. Sancho, once a bright talent, has struggled to meet expectations at United but showed potential during his loan at Dortmund. The club’s inability to meet United’s demands for a permanent transfer highlights the complexity of offloading him.
Resolving the futures of Greenwood and Sancho is crucial for United’s pre-season preparations under Ten Hag. The leadership, including Ratcliffe, wants a focused squad without distractions. Successfully selling these players would not only fund reinforcements but also signify a fresh start under new ownership.
