Liverpool is actively seeking a new center-back this summer to partner with veteran defender Virgil van Dijk. After losing out on Lille’s Leny Yoro, who signed with Manchester United, Liverpool has identified Juventus center-back Dean Huijsen as their primary target, according to Football Insider.

The club’s new manager, Arne Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp, is yet to make his first summer signing at Anfield. The departure of Joel Matip has intensified the urgency to strengthen the defense.

Huijsen, who impressed during his loan at Roma last season, is also on Aston Villa’s radar. Liverpool sees him as a crucial addition, especially with Van Dijk entering the final year of his contract amid rumors of a move to the Saudi Pro League. Huijsen’s contract with Juventus, which runs until June 2028, gives the Serie A club significant leverage in negotiations.

Liverpool’s need for a new defender is urgent, with the Premier League season fast approaching. The current options to partner Van Dijk include Ibrahima Konate, who has fitness issues; Jarrel Quansah, who lacks top-level experience; and Joe Gomez, primarily a full-back and considered a backup option.

The Reds have been linked with several center-backs this summer, including Goncalo Inacio and Marc Guehi, but Huijsen has emerged as the top priority to reinforce their backline.
