Early on Saturday morning, local reports stated that Ahmed Refaat, a 31-year-old football player, unfortunately died from a heart attack. After playing seven international matches for Egypt between 2013 and 2022 and scoring twice, he tragically passed away.

Refaat has suffered a heart attack that lasted more than an hour during a match in the Egyptian Premier League in March. After being sent to the hospital on short notice, he was admitted to intensive care, had a pacemaker installed, and was then allowed to go home. His health worsened even after he recovered, which ultimately resulted in his demise.

Refaat’s departure has had a profound effect on the football world. He was well-known for his winger role with Modern Future FC. Mohamed Salah, the captain of Egypt and star player for Liverpool, honoured his former teammate by wishing Refaat’s family well and sending his condolences.

After Refaat’s health crisis in March, Modern Future FC acknowledged his struggles and published a poignant statement grieving his loss. Honouring Refaat’s memory and his contributions to the team and sport, they conveyed their profound regret and faith in Allah’s will.
