Manchester United have signed this worldclass player as Casemero Replacement after he is set to leave this summer

Manchester United has reportedly considered Edson Alvarez, a midfielder for West Ham United, as a potential replacement for Casemiro.

Following a disappointing season, Casemiro is available for transfer this summer. United plans to use the proceeds from selling the Brazilian to raise around £100 million for reinvestment in the squad.

Casemiro’s departure would leave a gap in the defensive midfield, as he is the only naturally defensive-minded midfielder in the team. According to Fabrizio Romano, club officials have discussed targeting Alvarez as his replacement.

Alvarez, a Mexico international who will turn 27 in October, was signed by Erik ten Hag for Ajax in 2019. It is believed that ten Hag is interested in reuniting with him.

However, arranging a deal for Alvarez could be challenging. Having impressed since his £35 million move to West Ham last summer, Alvarez has a contract with the club until 2028. His near move to Chelsea in 2022—stopped by Ajax at the last minute—highlights his desirability.

After joining the Premier League, Alvarez adapted well, making 42 appearances in all competitions last season, which caught the attention of United’s decision-makers.

Meanwhile, it is expected that INEOS and United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will aim to limit ten Hag’s influence over transfer decisions. Although the manager might lose his veto power over transfers, he would still provide input.

Ten Hag has already overseen the arrival of several former Ajax players at Old Trafford, including Andre Onana, Lisandro Martinez, and Antony. While Frenkie de Jong and Brian Brobbey were previously targets, Matthijs de Ligt, another former Ajax star, was considered earlier this summer. However, United hesitated to pursue him due to the high cost of acquiring him from Bayern Munich.
