Manchester United have devised parallel transfer strategies for Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho, with manager Erik ten Hag expressing his desire to reintegrate Greenwood alongside the potential deal for Sancho. This marks the first time ten Hag has publicly mentioned Greenwood in relation to his plans.

The upcoming summer promises to be significantly active at Manchester United, marking the first where Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ownership will exert a substantial influence on the club. Through his INEOS group, Sir Jim has successfully secured a bid for 25% ownership of Old Trafford from the Glazer family, who maintain majority control but now share decision-making authority regarding the club’s operations.
Sir Jim’s ownership includes oversight of all aspects of the club’s football operations, encompassing transfers both incoming and outgoing, as well as the composition of the squad under manager Erik ten Hag.
In terms of departures, Donny van de Beek has already been loaned out to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt this month. Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho is on the verge of returning to his former club Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the season.
Sancho, who joined United for £73 million from Dortmund in 2021, has not lived up to expectations and has been excluded from the first team at Old Trafford following a disagreement with Ten Hag regarding his training performances after he was omitted from the squad for the defeat against Arsenal in September. It appears increasingly unlikely that Sancho has a future with United, prompting his imminent return to the Bundesliga club.
Mason Greenwood is currently away from United on loan for the season at Spanish side Getafe – and it appears both players are unlikely to feature for the Old Trafford club again, with identical transfer plans in the works which could come to fruition this summer.According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, when it comes to Sancho, there is no complusory option for Dortmund to buy him in the summer after his loan spell.
He reports that United will assess their options in the summer when it comes to Sancho’s future on the back of his spell back in the Bundesliga and the potential to receive more lucrative offers for him.In a similar vein with Greenwood, The Sun reports that Getafe wish to buy the United academy graduate for £40m this summer, but that Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are all clubs who are keeping tabs on him.
That’s why Manchester United have opted for a loan arrangement currently, anticipating the possibility of selling Mason Greenwood for a higher fee this summer, similar to their strategy with Jadon Sancho. Historically, United have faced challenges in consistently achieving substantial returns in player sales, but they are hopeful this could improve in the coming months.
