Barcelona is reportedly planning an unexpected swap deal to bring Manchester United’s emerging talent, Kobbie Mainoo, to their squad this summer.

According to reports from Spanish outlet Nacional, Barcelona’s new manager, Hansi Flick, is eager to bolster his team by acquiring the young midfielder. The Catalan club is looking to offload Raphinha, but has faced challenges in finding buyers for the Brazilian international. Therefore, Barcelona is proposing a deal where they would offer Raphinha plus an additional £8.5 million (€10 million) to secure Mainoo from Manchester United.

Earlier in April, Sport had mentioned that Barcelona turned down a €60 million offer from a Premier League club for Raphinha, whom they value at £68 million (€80 million). Now, they are willing to include the £68 million-rated winger in the proposed swap deal, along with the supplementary cash amount, in order to acquire Mainoo, who is currently regarded as one of Manchester United’s top central midfielders.

Kobbie Mainoo, who scored the match-winning goal against Manchester City to clinch the FA Cup under Erik ten Hag’s leadership, is highly regarded as a pivotal figure for Manchester United’s future. According to The Star, the club is prepared to present the 19-year-old with a lucrative contract extension. However, Mainoo’s focus currently lies on the European Championships with England, delaying any decision on his future.

Meanwhile, Raphinha’s potential arrival could represent a significant upgrade for Manchester United, potentially surpassing the likes of Antony, Greenwood, and Sancho. Nevertheless, the prospect of Mainoo departing for Barcelona would likely stir considerable dismay among the club’s supporters.
