Liverpool understand that breaking their current transfer record will be necessary to acquire one of their summer targets. New manager Arne Slot intends to build on Jurgen Klopp’s foundation and is actively seeking new talent to compete for trophies next season.

Despite finishing third in the Premier League and having a disappointing Europa League campaign last season, Liverpool are focused on bolstering their attacking lineup. According to Spanish source Sport, one of their main targets is Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.

Both Liverpool and Manchester City have shown interest in the 23-year-old Brazilian. Liverpool were reportedly willing to bid £100 million for Rodrygo if he expressed a desire to leave Real Madrid. Rodrygo scored ten goals in La Liga and five in the Champions League last season, playing a crucial role in Real Madrid’s successes in both competitions.

Rodrygo’s versatility, being able to play as both a striker and a winger, has caught Liverpool’s attention. However, Real Madrid are believed to value Rodrygo at €150 million (£127 million), a figure that exceeds Liverpool’s current transfer record and would make Rodrygo the most expensive signing by a Premier League club.

Given this high valuation, it is unlikely that Liverpool will meet Real Madrid’s demands. Consequently, they may need to explore more affordable options that fit Slot’s strategic approach. Slot aims to replicate Klopp’s success at Anfield and will require new signings to achieve this goal.
