“Everything was strategically arranged. The sole objective was to enter and oust the Glazers, paving the way for Sheikh Jassim to acquire the club.” – A former Manchester United bidder has been discovered engaging in a confidential discussion with Sir Jim Ratcliffe concerning a ‘very significant’ offer that could potentially ensure the success of their plans to purchase the club.

This approval marked the final stage after successfully navigating the ownership tests imposed by the Premier League. INEOS is poised to take charge of the footballing operations of the club and will play a role in influencing the business operations traditionally managed by the Glazer family.
Following Sheikh Jassim’s withdrawal of his bid, Sir Jim Ratcliffe reached an agreement with the Glazers, bringing an end to a prolonged bidding process. Now, Thomas Zilliacus, who withdrew from the third round of takeover bidding in April due to a lack of response from the Glazers, has expressed interest in engaging with Ratcliffe.
A crucial aspect of Zilliacus’ proposal involves a fan inclusion scheme designed to provide supporters with a more significant say in the club’s governance. In discussions with the Manchester Evening News, the 67-year-old unveiled plans for an app that would grant fans increased control in exchange for a fee. Under this scheme, fans would participate in decisions related to matters such as transfer strategies and dividends, although managerial decisions would not be included.
Zilliacus has shown enthusiasm to engage with Ratcliffe’s team, eager to discuss the potential of his fan monetization platform in generating substantial revenues for Manchester United. He cited a successful test of the model at an undisclosed top Italian club, where five percent of the fan base paid $400 to participate.
By extrapolating from United’s estimated billion-strong fanbase, Zilliacus envisions significant revenue potential. Despite previously focusing on Premier League clubs, he has currently shifted his attention, submitting a formal bid to acquire 100 percent ownership of Inter Milan for approximately £1.2 billion while actively concentrating on the Italian club.
