Jurgen Klopp is poised to exit Liverpool after a nine-year stint, leading the club to explore potential replacements. Xabi Alonso, an esteemed figure at Liverpool, is currently considered the primary candidate for the managerial position. However, uncertainties arise regarding Alonso’s willingness to depart Bayer Leverkusen, where he assumed managerial responsibilities in 2022 and is actively contending for the Bundesliga title this season.

Alonso’s decision seems to hinge on whether Leverkusen can maintain their two-point lead over Bayern Munich. Reports from the Spanish outlet todofichajes indicate that Alonso is contemplating the timing of a potential move to either Liverpool or Real Madrid, both of which have been linked to him.

While Xabi Alonso is considered Liverpool’s preferred choice to succeed Klopp, the club is making contingency plans. Zinedine Zidane is reportedly being considered as the club’s ‘plan B.’ Liverpool representatives have inquired about Zidane’s interest in the managerial position. The Frenchman is said to be attracted to the idea of a ‘solid project’ and the prospect of having a say in player acquisitions if he were to join.

Zidane, who left Real Madrid in 2021 after winning 11 trophies in four years, including three Champions League titles, has been out of managerial duties. Despite allegedly turning down offers from various clubs during his three-year hiatus, there were rumors that Marseille, his childhood club, was the only managerial position he would consider.

The report underscores Zidane’s reservations about joining the Premier League, primarily stemming from his limited proficiency in English. The former Juventus midfielder is worried about effectively conveying his instructions to players in a language where he may encounter difficulties.

Nevertheless, Zidane is intrigued by the prospect of managing Liverpool, contingent on Alonso’s decision about his future, which is anticipated to be concluded at the end of the season. This lack of clarity provides Zidane with the opportunity to carefully consider his managerial alternatives.
