Likewise, in the match between Manchester United and Arsenal, a penalty was initially awarded to United for a foul on Kai Havertz. However, referee Anthony Taylor chose to disregard VAR’s recommendation and personally reviewed the incident using the pitchside monitor.

Surprisingly, despite facing allegations of favoritism towards Liverpool, statistics indicate that they have been the most affected by VAR errors this season, with four decisions going against them. ESPN also points out that teams like Brighton and Wolves have been unfairly impacted by stringent VAR rulings.

In contrast, Aston Villa emerged as the team benefiting the most from VAR, capitalizing on three favorable decisions. Notably, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Newcastle United each experienced two VAR errors in their favor, further emphasizing the contentious nature of VAR’s implementation in modern football.
