In 2017, Jurgen Klopp engaged in discussions with Sadio Mane regarding his future at Liverpool, prompted by Mohamed Salah’s transfer from Roma, which led to Mane changing wings. The Liverpool manager reassured Mane that he would continue to have a crucial role in the team moving forward.

Sadio Mane was not informed by Jurgen Klopp about Philippe Coutinho’s imminent departure from Liverpool, a decision influenced by the arrival of Mohamed Salah, which resulted in Mane changing his position. Upon Mane’s arrival from Southampton in 2016, he primarily played as a right winger, while Coutinho occupied the left side. However, Salah’s transfer from Roma in the subsequent year led to him becoming Klopp’s preferred choice on the right wing.

Due to Salah’s arrival, Mane transitioned to the left wing, entering direct competition with Coutinho, who occasionally played in a more central role. Mane’s performance declined following the positional change, prompting private discussions with Klopp about his future after Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with local rivals Everton in December.

During that match, Mane missed a crucial opportunity that could have secured Liverpool the victory. Klopp aimed to boost Mane’s confidence, but he refrained from disclosing the imminent move of Coutinho to Barcelona.

“He [Klopp] said he had confidence in me and believed that with time, I would play until exhaustion,” Mane revealed to the Liverpool Echo in 2020. “Nevertheless, I expressed my desire to be on the field. Klopp explained the necessity to rotate the squad, citing the impending departure of Coutinho, though he didn’t explicitly disclose that at the time.” Just weeks after their conversation, Coutinho completed a significant transfer to Barcelona for a reported £142 million.

Subsequent to Coutinho’s exit, Mane was prominently featured, starting in nearly every one of Liverpool’s remaining matches that season. He gradually regained his form and, alongside Salah and Firmino, played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s successful campaign, securing the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup titles. Eventually, Mane departed Liverpool to join Bayern Munich in 2022.

Sadio Mane is now playing for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, having left Liverpool in 2022

Nevertheless, Mane’s stint at Bayern lasted only one season, and during the summer, he made a move to the Saudi Pro League, joining Al-Nassr. In his current team, he shares the field with notable players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Aymeric Laporte, and Marcelo Brozovic.
