Gary Neville witnessed Liverpool players at a nightclub around 4 am and mentioned that they were heavy drinkers.

Gary Neville discussed the early stages of his career at Manchester United and the squads of both United and Liverpool from the 1990s in a recent installment of the Stick to Football podcast.
Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has disclosed that during his playing days, he used to observe Liverpool players leaving nightclubs around 4 am. Neville, who is now 48, shared these insights on a recent episode of the Stick to Football podcast.
Neville commented on the habits of senior Liverpool players from that era, describing them as “big drinkers.” He also discussed the talented young players in the Liverpool squad at the time, acknowledging their skills. Reflecting on the competition between Manchester United and Liverpool in the early 1990s, Neville pointed out that while Liverpool had a group of talented players like Steve McManaman, Robbie Fowler, Jamie Redknapp, and others, he believed that Manchester United’s senior players were more professional and talented.
He highlighted the 1995/96 season when Liverpool was a strong contender for the title but suggested that Manchester United’s senior players played a crucial role in their success.
Neville indicated that the Liverpool players’ inclination for nightclubs might have influenced their performance during that time. He mentioned, “To me, there wasn’t an excess [of drinking], where we put games in doubt, but I remember seeing Liverpool lads at Cheerleaders [a nightclub].” He elaborated, “Cheerleaders on a Wednesday night, I went a couple of times, and I recall the Liverpool lads were in the corner. The United lads would leave around 1 am, but the Liverpool lads stayed there until 4 am or 5 am on a Wednesday.”
