The Spanish league has stated its intention to investigate a complaint regarding an alleged incident involving Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, who is accused of referring to Getafe forward Mason Greenwood as a “rapist” during a LaLiga match. The incident is said to have taken place in Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Getafe on Thursday, with the complaint initially reported by Spanish radio station Cadena SER.

The league has acknowledged the complaint to The Associated Press and indicated its intention to employ a lip-reading service to ascertain the events and subsequently determine the appropriate course of action. Greenwood, who controversially joined Getafe on loan from Manchester United in September, had left his former club amid a criminal investigation into a potential attempted rape.

However, prosecutors closed the case in February 2023 due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material, stating there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. The loan move to Getafe followed, and the recent complaint alleges that Bellingham insulted Greenwood during a match. As of now, it remains unclear what actions, if any, might be taken against Bellingham if the allegations are confirmed. Neither Real Madrid nor Getafe have provided immediate responses to requests for comments from The Associated Press.
