Xabi Alonso, the former Liverpool midfielder who is currently the manager at Bayer Leverkusen, is becoming a leading candidate to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Klopp’s surprising announcement to step down at the end of the season has sparked conversations about potential successors, with Alonso prominently discussed in these deliberations.

There are indications that Liverpool’s interest in Xabi Alonso might be made easier by a stipulation in his contract with Bayer Leverkusen. As per reports from German publication BILD, the Spanish midfielder, who is under contract with Leverkusen until 2026, has a clause that permits him to leave at the conclusion of the season for any of the three prominent European clubs where he has previously played: Liverpool, Bayern Munich, or Real Madrid.

Alonso’s impressive managerial tenure at Leverkusen, where his unbeaten side currently leads the Bundesliga, holding a four-point advantage over reigning champions Bayern Munich, adds an intriguing dimension to the ongoing managerial speculation at Anfield.
