This marks the second time this season that Burnley, currently struggling in the Premier League at 19th place, has secured a victory over United in a friendly; they previously won 3-0 at Carrington in August. With just 12 points from 21 games, Burnley is currently five points away from safety in the league standings.

The convincing margin of defeat in this friendly might raise concerns among United fans, particularly considering the involvement of five first-team regulars. As reported by The Athletic, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, and Antony each played for 45 to 60 minutes in the behind-closed-doors match. The Brazilian winger, Casemiro, managed to score United’s lone goal from the penalty spot during the game. Additionally, Amad Diallo, who had been recovering from a knee injury suffered last summer, also participated in the match despite speculation about a potential loan move away from the club this month.

Despite the concerning outcome, supporters of United can find solace in the fact that the primary objective of the friendly was to aid the fitness-building process for those making a return from injury.
