Paul Pogba has alluded to the possibility of making a comeback to Manchester United.

Paul Pogba, the ex-Manchester United midfielder, has expressed his interest in returning to the club, responding to the calls from fans urging his comeback to Old Trafford.

United reacquired Pogba from Juventus in 2016, but his second stint at Old Trafford did not unfold as anticipated, with a relatively unremarkable performance falling short of expectations. He returned to Juventus in the summer; however, an injury has prevented him from making an appearance for the club.

Amid Juventus’ recent challenges, some United fans have expressed a desire to see Pogba return to Old Trafford. Yet, in an Amazon Prime Documentary titled ‘The Pogumentary,’ Pogba addressed his sentiments toward his former club. According to The Express, he stated, “My thought process is to show Manchester (United) that they made a mistake in waiting to give me a contract. And to show other clubs that Manchester had made a mistake in not offering me a contract.”

The midfielder still harbors resentment towards United, making the prospect of any potential return highly unlikely. His departure from the club was marked by controversy, and despite some fans expressing a desire for his comeback, it is improbable that he would be warmly welcomed.

While he has excelled on the international stage, clinching the World Cup with his national team in 2018, there remains a sense that he might have achieved more at the club level.

Meanwhile, Juventus is currently entangled in a transfer scandal, leading to Serie A imposing a penalty of 15 points on the club.

This extends their journey back to success beyond initial estimations, suggesting that if Pogba remains with the team, it could be a considerable amount of time before he experiences any triumphs.

Nevertheless, Pogba has previously emphasized his contentment at Juventus, despite their challenges. He stated, “Juventus came from two years in which they did not win the Scudetto. It was a good challenge for both of us, and maybe it was the right time to get together and try to take back our rightful place: me and Juventus.”

He further expressed his attachment to the Juventus jersey, acknowledging its significance and how it brings out his best. Reflecting on the team’s history, Pogba noted, “We built a good history with this team, which I never forgot even when I left.”

In contrast, Manchester United is making positive strides under new manager Erik ten Hag, and with recent midfield additions like Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, Pogba’s presence seems like a distant memory.

Last season, much speculation surrounded Pogba’s future, with fans and journalists eagerly awaiting to see if the French World Cup winner would commit to a new contract and continue with Manchester United. Eventually, the 29-year-old chose not to renew his contract, leading to considerable excitement when he decided to return to Juventus for the new season, six years after departing Turin for Manchester.

Despite high expectations among supporters of the Italian giants regarding the impact Pogba would make, his second tenure in Italy has turned out to be nothing less than a disastrous experience.

Pogba signed a four-year contract with the club in July but encountered a setback just two weeks later when he injured the meniscus in his knee. Initially expected to be sidelined for a couple of months, it became evident that surgery was necessary, leading to the Frenchman being ruled out of the winter World Cup in Qatar.

Despite overcoming the knee issue, Pogba has not made an appearance for Juventus this season, delaying his second debut for the club. Current indications suggest that unspecified injuries are now preventing him from returning to action.

Even Pogba’s manager, Allegri, is uncertain about when the star midfielder will be available. Allegri stated, “Paul Pogba is not available. He can’t be part of the team; I’m sorry, but this is the reality now. He’s still injured, and I don’t know when he will be back. I’m waiting for him.”

The latest information is disappointing news for fans, particularly considering Pogba’s probable status as one of the highest-paid players at the club. With three years remaining on his contract and nearly 10 months since his last appearance, Pogba’s future is now more uncertain than anyone could have anticipated.

Additionally, Juventus is currently in a mid-table position in Serie A, grappling with a 15-point deduction resulting from an inquiry into their historical transfer activities.

Injuries have continued to plague Paul Pogba since concluding a tumultuous six-year tenure at Old Trafford last summer and joining Juventus. The French international returned to action for La Vecchia Signora in February after sustaining a severe knee injury the previous summer.

However, Pogba faced another setback on Sunday, being sidelined for Juventus’ 4-2 victory over Sampdoria due to an abductor issue. This ailment will also keep him out of upcoming matches against Freiburg and Inter.

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri explained to DAZN via Goal: “My initial plan today was to give [Adrien] Rabiot 60 minutes and Pogba 30, but then he got injured. This morning, Pogba was taking free kicks and felt a twinge in his adductor.”

Since rejoining Juventus, Pogba has been absent from approximately 33 matches due to injuries, constituting around 89 percent of the club’s games. His recurring injury setbacks, along with reports of alleged disciplinary issues off the pitch, have sparked speculation that the 29-year-old might face the termination of his Juventus contract.

A recent report from Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited by the Mirror, suggests that the Juventus leadership is less than satisfied with how Paul Pogba’s return has unfolded, prompting them to explore various options ahead of the summer.

The first option, as outlined in the publication, involves renegotiating Pogba’s contract with the aim of him accepting a pay cut as a form of “act of responsibility” following a challenging season. Another possibility is to maintain the current arrangement, hoping for an improvement in Pogba’s performance in the upcoming season.

According to the Italian outlet, the third option is to reach an agreement to nullify the four-year deal Pogba signed back in July. However, it’s worth noting that in February, before Pogba’s latest injury setback, Juventus’ chief operating officer, Francesco Calvo, refuted claims of plans to terminate the player’s contract.

“We are not planning to terminate Pogba’s contract; I can deny these stories,” Calvo stated via TSN. “He’s an important player for us. The injuries are part of the game, but Paul is training well, and we wait for him.”
