As per Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal is deploying scouts to Girona to assess the performance of left-back Miguel Gutierrez, a player drawing interest from several European teams.

Since making his debut for Real Madrid in 2021 at the age of 22, the Gunners have expressed interest in the player. According to Romano, Arsenal has sent scouts to monitor the 22-year-old prodigy, born in 2001, who is currently under contract with Girona until 2027.

While specific defenders have not been identified, there is a general understanding that Madrid is contemplating the full-back. After transitioning from Real Madrid’s youth system, Gutierrez joined Girona in 2022 for a fee of four million euros.

Despite having a 50% sell-on clause in his contract, it seems unlikely that the Spanish giants will pursue Gutierrez, considering potential losses involving Alphonso Davies and Fran Garcia. Girona is inclined to retain the Spaniard until the summer, but a substantial offer in January could prompt them to consider his departure.

The search for a left-back replacement began for the Gunners after Carney’s loan move to Real Sociedad was confirmed for the summer.

Oleksandr Zinchenko remains the only confirmed left-back for the team, following Nuno Tavares’ move to Nottingham Forest on loan with a buyout option, despite Tavares’s impressive stint in the French league with Olympique de Marseille.

Gutierrez has garnered attention from scouts due to his stellar performances for Girona, who currently lead La Liga. The Spanish player has featured in 12 matches across all competitions, contributing with one assist. His remarkable offensive and defensive skills have been evident during Girona’s unexpected rise in the standings.

Arsenal is closely monitoring the 22-year-old due to his outstanding displays, amassing a total of 46 appearances for Girona. Recognized as one of Europe’s premier reverse full-backs, Gutierrez is integral to Mikel Arteta’s tactical approach, as he can transition into midfield, facilitating a seamless connection between attack and defense.

Arteta expresses a preference for functional full-backs.
