Ivan Toney has been advised to consider joining Liverpool amid speculation of a sensational swap transfer deal.
Liverpool has been recommended to propose a remarkable swap deal to Brentford to secure the services of Ivan Toney. Arsenal is also closely eyeing Toney, seeking offensive additions, and has been consistently linked with the Brentford striker throughout the season.
Instead of considering a move to the Emirates Stadium, Toney has received advice that Liverpool would be a more suitable destination. Despite being the third-highest scorers in the Premier League and leading the table, former Liverpool player Stan Collymore suggests that the team still requires additional attacking options. Collymore identified Cody Gakpo as a potential candidate for a swap deal that would see Toney joining Liverpool.
Gakpo has registered nine goals in 27 appearances this season, but Collymore is firm in his belief that the player might not live up to expectations in a transfer. However, he sees this issue being addressed if Liverpool secures Toney’s signature.
Speaking to CaughtOffside, Collymore stated, “If I were advising him on where to go next among the interested clubs, I would recommend Toney to join Arsenal. Nevertheless, I think the winning culture at Arsenal is still lacking. Toney is a determined character, clearly driven to succeed.”
“Therefore, I’m unsure if Toney’s attitude would positively influence Arsenal. In my view, if Liverpool were to express interest, that would be ideal. I hold Toney in such high regard that I could envision him playing alongside Salah and Diaz.”
“Liverpool might assess him and decide ‘Not for us,’ but if I were in charge at Liverpool, I would seriously consider letting Gakpo go, as I don’t think he will evolve into a prolific Liverpool striker, and instead bring in Toney. If Liverpool proposed a deal involving cash and Gakpo, I’m curious if Brentford would entertain the offer.”
Toney recently came back from an eight-month suspension for involvement in illegal gambling. He marked his return by scoring Brentford’s opening goal in a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest, expressing his joy at being back on the pitch.
“It holds significant meaning for me, a moment that took a long time to materialize. I had envisioned this during my time away. I was confident it would happen, and when I left my house this morning, I told myself that I would score tonight and that we would secure the victory — and it happened,” he shared with Sky Sports.
“I believed in myself during training, and while many shots may find their way into the stands or the car park, when it truly matters, I deliver! I just adjusted it slightly around the corner, allowing myself that extra inch or two of space to shoot. This moment is for the fans, for everyone — I’m back.”
