Brian Brobbey experienced successful periods under the guidance of Erik ten Hag at Ajax. Initially, this occurred during the 2020/21 season, after which he moved to RB Leipzig. However, the German stint did not unfold as planned, leading to his return to Ajax on loan for the 2021/22 season. During this loan spell, Brobbey excelled, registering seven goals in 11 Eredivisie appearances following his return to Amsterdam in the winter transfer window.

Under the guidance of Erik ten Hag at Ajax, Brian Brobbey enjoyed success. This initially took place during the 2020/21 season, after which he transferred to RB Leipzig. However, the German period did not go according to plan, prompting his return to Ajax on loan for the 2021/22 season. During this loan stint, Brobbey thrived, scoring seven goals in 11 Eredivisie appearances after coming back to Amsterdam in the winter transfer window.

In a recent interview with Der Telegraaf, Brobbey acknowledged the interest from Ten Hag and Manchester United. Despite the tempting prospect of potentially higher earnings and considerable financial benefits for his agent, Jose Fortes Rodriguez, Brobbey and his team made a resolute decision – opting for a permanent return to Ajax.

“Erik ten Hag called me and mentioned that at United, my agent could secure millions of euros, and I could earn a multiple of my Ajax salary. However, our decision was unwavering: we chose to join Ajax,” clarified Brobbey. In order to facilitate the return, Rodriguez even relinquished a significant percentage of the sell-on clause.

Choosing not to pursue the opportunity to play for Manchester United, Brobbey committed to Ajax, inking a five-year contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena for an initial €16.35 million.

With Anthony Martial’s imminent departure from Manchester United as his contract nears expiration at the end of the season, reports from the Daily Mirror suggest that Brobbey is once again being considered as a potential replacement.

The expected departure of the underperforming French forward creates opportunities for Brobbey, positioning him as a candidate to strengthen Manchester United’s attacking lineup.

The twists and turns in Brobbey’s career, such as turning down a move to Manchester United in favor of Ajax, contribute to the intrigue surrounding his footballing journey, leaving fans and pundits curious about the potential impact he could have on the Premier League stage.
