“Mason Greenwood might have joined the club already if not for certain staff and players who envy his talent” – Manchester United players reportedly have reservations about having Mason Greenwood return to the club this season, even though criminal charges against him have been dropped. This revelation has surprised fans.
Manchester United players are reportedly hesitant to welcome Mason Greenwood back into the squad, fearing potential disruptions to their season.
Despite the recent dropping of charges of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior against the 21-year-old, concerns within the United team persist. Greenwood was initially arrested in January last year following disturbing videos and images posted online by a woman.
While the Crown Prosecution Service’s decision to drop the charges was announced on Thursday, The Sun reports that the United squad is wary of the potential distraction and scrutiny Greenwood’s return could bring.
A source mentioned, “The players are open to him returning to the team, but the scrutiny could be massively distracting. The dressing room is the happiest it has been for ages, and no one wants to rock the boat.”
United issued a statement in response to the Crown Prosecution Service’s decision, stating: “Manchester United acknowledges the Crown Prosecution Service’s decision to drop all charges against Mason Greenwood.
The club will now initiate its own internal process to determine the next steps. We will refrain from making any further comments until that process is concluded.” Erik ten Hag’s team has been in excellent form recently, excelling in both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup.
Following their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace, United currently holds the third position in the league table. Additionally, they have secured a spot in the Carabao Cup final, where they are set to face Newcastle at Wembley at the end of the month.
