This comes as a pleasant surprise for Manchester United supporters, as Ratcliffe reveals an unexpected return of Jose Mourinho to take over from the underperforming coach Ten Hag at Man Utd. Sir Jim Ratcliffe expresses confidence that Mourinho would outperform ETH and do a superior job.

After Roma’s one-win streak in five Serie A games, former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was fired, ending his two and a half-year tenure in that role.
The 60-year-old assumed the role of Roma manager in May 2021 and successfully steered the team to victory in the Europa Conference League in his inaugural season, putting an end to I Giallorossi’s 11-year trophy drought. In the subsequent 2022/23 season, Mourinho guided them to the Europa League final, although they narrowly lost to Sevilla on penalties.
As of now, Roma finds themselves in the ninth position in the Serie A standings, facing disappointment in the first half of the current season with 29 points from 20 matches. Notably, I Giallorossi managed to secure only one win in their last six league games from the beginning of December, with a 3-1 loss to AC Milan marking Mourinho’s final match in charge.
A statement released by Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin expressed gratitude to Jose on behalf of the entire AS Roma community for the passion and dedication he displayed since joining the Giallorossi.
Luke Shaw’s continued absence from Manchester United has been clarified following an unexpected injury setback. The explanation given for his non-participation is linked to an unforeseen injury blow.
Regarding the decision to part ways with Jose Mourinho, the statement conveyed appreciation for the positive memories during his tenure but emphasized the necessity of immediate change for the club’s best interests. The club extended best wishes to Mourinho and his team for their future endeavors.
Mourinho took over from compatriot Paulo Fonseca at Roma for the 2021/22 season, aiming to improve upon the team’s seventh-place finish in Serie A. In an effort to enhance their performance, Roma made significant financial investments, acquiring players such as Tammy Abraham from Chelsea for £34 million, as well as securing the services of Rui Patricio and Matias Vina in the summer of 2021. However, Mourinho had to offload several players, including Edin Dzeko, Javier Pastore, and Pedro, to comply with UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations.

In Mourinho’s inaugural season at the helm, Roma secured a sixth-place finish, a marginal improvement from the previous campaign. However, it was their impressive performance in the Europa Conference League that garnered attention. Progressing through the group stage, I Giallorossi reached the last-16, triumphing over Vitesse and Bodo/Glimt to face Premier League side Leicester in the semi-final.
After a 1-1 draw in the first-leg, Mourinho’s Roma secured a victory at the Stadio Olimpico with Tammy Abraham’s first-half header, earning them a spot in the final against Feyenoord. The final, held in Albania, saw Roma emerge victorious as Nicolo Zaniola scored the winning goal, marking Mourinho’s first trophy during his tenure.
In the previous season, Roma concluded their campaign in the same position with an identical points tally as in the 2021/22 season, securing sixth place with 63 points. Yet again, it was their notable journey in European competition that drew focus, reaching the Europa League final after victories against teams such as Red Bull Salzburg, Real Sociedad, and Bayer Leverkusen.
