Chelsea’s choice regarding Viktor Gyokeres suggests that Todd Boehly is acknowledging a transfer amounting to £91.2 million.

Chelsea’s association with high-profile transfers has become more prominent during the 18 months of Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly’s ownership. The club has made two significant expenditures, surpassing £100 million each, to acquire Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo in consecutive transfer windows. The cumulative spending of £1 billion since the summer of 2022 is now a substantial burden for the club.

This month, the team from west London has no plans to replicate the kind of transfer window that led to an inflated squad a year ago. While there is ongoing interest in securing a top-tier forward, the club also aims to assess the situation and establish stability after an exceptionally busy summer.

The absence of Nicolas Jackson due to AFCON and Christopher Nkunku’s injuries has heightened scrutiny on the team’s attacking position. Mauricio Pochettino is optimistic that his squad can find a clinical edge to enhance their performance. Chelsea is just three goals shy of matching their Premier League total from the entire previous season, but they still seek an added boost, especially against defensively disciplined opponents.

Both Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney have been linked to the club, but a potential move for either player may be more likely at the conclusion of the season. Another name in consideration is Viktor Gyokeres, who has been rumored to be on Chelsea’s radar.

However, Mirror Football has learned that Gyokeres is not a current target for the club, despite reports from Portugal indicating a £73 million bid has been turned down. While there were suggestions that Gyokeres was being considered as a potential addition, with the Blues interested in securing a robust striker to ease the burden on players like Jackson and Armando Broja, there is no imminent move in the works.

Having made the transition from the Championship, Gyokeres has scored 20 goals and provided 10 assists in 24 Primeira Liga appearances. It is believed that the striker has a release clause in the vicinity of £86 million.

Pursuing Gyokeres would bring back memories for Chelsea, reminiscent of a scenario from just a year ago. The club initially seemed to abandon negotiations for Enzo Fernandez, only to later return and set a club-record fee of £106.7 million. The Argentine international had been with the club for less than six months after completing a transfer valued at up to £15.5 million, including add-ons.

Chelsea’s recent strategy has aimed at securing players in the earlier stages of their development. Over the past 12 months, the club has acquired young talents such as Andrey Santos, Kendry Paez, and Angelo Gabriel, with the aspiration that they will evolve into key first-team players or possess significant resale value if that avenue is preferred.

Nevertheless, it is recognized that Chelsea will secure either a top-tier striker in the upcoming two transfer windows or trust that the trio of Nkunku, Broja, and Jackson will demonstrate the capability to consistently provide sufficient goals.
