The details of the intense discussions between Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho during their ‘clear the air’ meeting in September have been revealed in a recent report.
Following the public dispute surrounding training performances after the defeat to Arsenal in September, Sancho has not played for United since and eventually joined Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season. Despite unsuccessful talks during the ‘clear the air’ meeting, Ten Hag has not publicly commented on the specifics of their conversation, maintaining that the door remains open for Sancho to return to the first-team fold.
The Athletic’s report sheds light on the meeting planned during the international break, with Sancho initially granted a leave of absence.
Upon Jadon Sancho’s return to Carrington, the reported meeting between him and Erik ten Hag took place. During the meeting, Ten Hag allegedly showed Sancho videos of the final training session before the Arsenal match, featuring a practice match between United’s starting XI and a secondary XI mimicking Arsenal’s playing style.
The report suggests that Ten Hag expressed dissatisfaction with Sancho’s application and pressing in that session, although Sancho disagreed with this assessment. Subsequent talks were scheduled, with United reportedly urging Sancho to delete his social media post disputing Ten Hag’s comments and publicly apologize to the manager.
However, Sancho did not apologize and, despite removing the social media post, was not included in another squad until his departure for Dortmund. The likelihood of Sancho playing for United under Ten Hag in the future appears to be extremely unlikely based on the current situation.
