Lille’s 19-year-old centre-back Leny Yoro, widely regarded as one of Europe’s top prospects, is on the brink of a significant transfer decision. Yoro has been linked with a move away from the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, with Real Madrid initially seen as the frontrunner. However, recent reports indicate he is set to undergo a medical and finalize personal terms with Manchester United.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, United and Lille reached an agreement last week for an initial €62 million (£52 million) fee. Although Yoro initially preferred a move to Real Madrid, the Spanish club has shown no indication of matching the fee agreed upon by United and Lille. Consequently, Yoro has warmed to the idea of joining Manchester United, though some details remain to be finalized.

United fans are excited about the potential signing of Yoro, who completed 1,727 passes in Ligue 1 last season, the most by a teenager across Europe’s big-five leagues in 2023-24. The club has also shown interest in Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, but further arrivals will depend on the futures of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.

United’s summer recruitment is expected to be busy following Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’s purchase of a minority stake in the club. The club has already signed Joshua Zirkee for £36.5 million and remains optimistic about securing de Ligt, who has expressed a clear preference for a move to Old Trafford.
