Man Utd make last-ditch bid to hijack Real Madrid transfer after having huge offer ‘accepted’
Manchester United have reportedly made a last-minute bid to hijack a Real Madrid transfer. United are keen to bolster their squad for the upcoming season, having confirmed that Erik ten Hag will remain as manager.
A one-year extension clause in Ten Hag’s contract has been activated, keeping him at Old Trafford until 2026. United are expected to finalize the signings of defender Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich and striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, both currently representing the Netherlands at Euro 2024.
As part of their summer overhaul, United are also trying to secure another defender, aiming to outmaneuver Real Madrid. According to journalist Nabil Djellit, United have had an official offer of £42 million plus bonuses for Leny Yoro accepted by French side Lille.
Real Madrid have identified the French centre-back as a top target this summer and are in negotiations with Lille. Despite Yoro’s preference for Real Madrid, United are pushing to persuade him to join the Premier League.
Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool have also shown interest in the young defender, but it appears Real Madrid and United are the frontrunners for his signature.
United need to reinforce a defense that conceded 58 goals in 38 league games last season. Raphael Varane has left the club after his contract expired, and injuries to Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez have highlighted the need for reliable defenders.
Additionally, the Premier League giants have been linked with a surprise signing at left-back.
