According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United has finally won the race over Liverpool and Manchester City to get an extraordinary defender who is worth sixty million pounds. The signing of the player has been approved, the paperwork has been completed, and the medical tests are scheduled to begin this coming Friday.
The club has reached a personal agreement with the central defender, though the initial £80 million asking price caused some concern.
As per the latest information from FT, Branthwaite is close to completing his transfer to Manchester United.
Negotiations between Manchester United and Everton have advanced significantly, with Everton now accepting offers between £50 million and £60 million.
Nevertheless, they aim for a total package of £65 million, including performance-related add-ons.
Everton is set to make a significant profit from this sale, having purchased Branthwaite from Carlisle for just £1 million in 2020.
The young defender has shown his potential, especially during a successful loan at PSV Eindhoven in the 2022-23 season and an impressive Premier League performance last season.
Manchester United will gain a promising talent in Branthwaite, expected to eventually replace Raphael Varane in the defense.
Enhancing the backline is a priority for the club, and signing the English defender would be a substantial advancement for United under Ratcliffe’s leadership. The deal is expected to be completed before the end of the month.
