“I’m relishing my experience here. Erik ten Hag reached out to me recently, and based on our conversation, I believe it’s appropriate for me to return home.” – Mason Greenwood provides a revealing interview for the first time regarding his discussion with Erik ten Hag following his initial award win while on loan at Getafe.

Since joining Getafe in September, the 22-year-old has scored five goals and provided four assists in 15 games. His standout performances in December led to him being named Player of the Month for Getafe, as voted by fans from across La Liga. In a rare interview with Getafe’s club media, Greenwood discussed his life in Spain and the support he has received from the club’s fans.
Mason Greenwood, a product of Manchester United’s academy, has granted a rare interview following his accolade during his loan stint at Getafe. The decision for the loan came after Manchester United deemed his future at Old Trafford uncertain. This determination followed the dropping of allegations including attempted rape, assault, and controlling coercive behavior by the CPS due to the withdrawal of a key witness and the emergence of new information. Greenwood, who has vehemently denied these allegations, has since relocated to Spain to revive his career.
Greenwood expressed, “Everything’s going well, I settled in quickly. My teammates embraced me, and since then, I’ve been content, enjoying training and playing matches. The fans hold great significance for me. The most memorable moment thus far was scoring my first goal here at the stadium; it meant a lot, especially hearing the fans cheering loudly. We also had a training session where many fans turned up to watch, and we always value their support. They’re like an extra player on the field when they’re backing us.”
Greenwood’s future remains uncertain, with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and AC Milan all linked to the forward in recent months. Additionally, there have been reports from The Sun suggesting that Barcelona is considering a £40 million transfer and is willing to offer Greenwood Lionel Messi’s iconic No.10 shirt to secure his services.
Following Messi’s departure from Barcelona in August 2021, his number was passed on to La Masia graduate Ansu Fati. However, since Fati’s loan move to Brighton in September, the number has remained unassigned.
