Reports indicate that Manchester United is redirecting their attention in the transfer market, particularly towards reinforcing their left-back options in light of uncertainties surrounding Tyrell Malacia’s future.

Since undergoing knee surgery last summer, Malacia has been sidelined, with manager Erik ten Hag recently suggesting that a return this season is unlikely. While the club has yet to provide official updates on Malacia’s situation, Fabrizio Romano highlighted the complexities surrounding his case.

The absence of Luke Shaw due to injury issues has further exacerbated United’s left-back woes, leading to makeshift solutions such as deploying Victor Lindelof in that position. Consequently, the club is actively exploring solutions to address their left-back dilemma, with Melvin Bard, a highly-regarded defender from Nice in Ligue 1, emerging as a potential target under discussion.

According to reports from the Evening Standard, discussions are in progress between Manchester United and Bard, who has demonstrated versatility and promise with two assists in 23 appearances for Nice this season. His ability to contribute further up the field in an attacking role adds to his attractiveness, especially as he aims to secure a place in France’s squad for the upcoming Euro tournament this summer.

Bard himself acknowledges the significance of potentially being called up to the national team, emphasizing his commitment to continuous growth and development. Despite having two years left on his contract at Nice, Bard remains focused on maintaining his current level of performance while recognizing the stiff competition for spots in the France squad.

While strengthening the left-back position is a priority for United, their transfer aspirations extend beyond this area. Reports suggest that the club is also interested in acquiring a forward to complement Rasmus Hojlund, as well as reinforcements in midfield and central defense.
